Michigan Hands & Voices is a chapter of the nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to supporting families of children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, as well as the professionals who serve them.
Michigan Family Voices is a grassroots collaborative that exists to identify and mobilize current and new family member and individual leaders to create a network of individuals with special health care needs and their families across the state that will impact and effect positive change in policy. The group will create and maintain a statewide network of leaders to inform, build relationships with and/or work in partnership with decision-makers at all levels.
Dyslexia is an invisible problem with language that is present at birth and continues throughout life for those with it. Without recognition and appropriate instruction, children with dyslexia will struggle with, or fail to read and write; this is in spite of their average or in many cases, above average intelligence. MDI has been successfully teaching children with dyslexia for over 33 years. Providing remedial and preventative instruction, we have helped thousands of children with dyslexia. Includes camp program, Camp Starlight.
This state office concentrates on helping to improve the lives of Michigan’s Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing citizens. Our mission is affirming the indisputable right of persons who are Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing to secure effective communication. It receives input from its 13-member citizens Advisory Council appointed by the Governor. Services include Technical Support, Information and Referral, Accommodations, Interpreter Information and Services.
MDRC cultivates disability pride and strengthens the disability movement by recognizing disability as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity while collaborating to dismantle all forms of oppression. Information on assistive technology, insurance, and leadership.
The fundamental goal of the DD Council is to ensure that people with developmental disabilities have the opportunities and support to achieve their full potential and life dreams. The Council consists of 21 Michigan residents appointed by the Governor. The Council provides funding and leadership to the statewide Regional Inclusive Community Coalitions (RICCs) which promote advocacy, capacity building, and systemic change.
Michigan Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services include special instruction and related services provided to young children, ages 3 through 5, who qualify under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA, Part B, Section 619). Through its 56 Intermediate School Districts (ISDs), Michigan’s ECSE program offers a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to all eligible children at no cost to their families, and in the Least Restrictive Environment.
