Assistive Technology (AT) enables people with disabilities to participate more fully in all aspects of their lives (home, school, and community). AT can also help students access their right to a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment.

 

This workshop will discuss AT in the IEP:

* developing a well-written PLAAFP statement to include the difficulties the student is experiencing

* establishing goals to address difficulties

* creating an implementation (followthrough) plan

*  AT tools and resources

Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired

The Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired offers assistance to people with visual impairment and blindness. The organization provides low vision services, rehabilitation, education, and vision aids. Low Vision Clinics are located in Grand Rapids, Holland, Muskegon and Ludington.

Wings of Mercy of West Michigan

Wings of Mercy is a volunteer pilot organization that assists patients in need of transportation to distant medical facilities.

Greenville Optimist Camp

The Greenville Optimist Camp for Persons with Disabilities is a summer camp which serves adults and children who have received or are receiving Special Education services, regardless of age or ability to pay. The Camp is an overnight tent camping experience and offers fishing, boating, swimming, arts/crafts, nature experiences, trips, and nightly campfires.

Dispute Resolution Center of West Michigan

The Dispute Resolution Center of West Michigan provides low cost or free mediation to help resolve almost any type of dispute. These include and are not limited to special education, divorce, parenting time, contracts, consumer, landlord-tenant, neighborhood, employment. The center covers 7 counties: Kent, Ionia, Lake, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo, Osceola.

Michigan Community Dental Clinics

Michigan Community Dental Clinics has several dental clinics located throughout the state that provide dental services to adults and children on Medicaid, as well as low-income, non-insured individuals. Non-Medicaid patients are provided dental services at a reduced fee.

Family Hope Foundation

Family Hope Foundation is an established non-profit organization providing resources, activities, support, and funding for therapies to families of children with special needs in West Michigan. Those needs may be physical, emotional, or developmental.

Kid At Heart Therapy

We specialize in providing pediatric in-home therapy for children ages birth through eighteen years with a variety of disorders and conditions including prematurity, torticollis/plagiocephaly, developmental delays, dyspraxia, genetic syndromes, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, spina bifida, autism spectrum disorders, and others.
